Samsung Launches New Thin- and Zero-Client Displays for Cloud Access through Desktop Virtualization

Samsung has launched two new cloud display lines, the TC-series thin client cloud displays and the NC-series zero-client cloud displays. Both lines combine virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and desktop virtualization technology to provide secure access to the cloud.

The TC-series includes the TC191W and TC241W models, which have a range of desktop virtualization components built in to enable users to connect to hosted cloud environments. The thin clients come with Windows Embedded Standard 7 (WES 7) preinstalled to provide "the simplicity of a thin client with PC-like utility," according to the company.

Administrators can expand the functionality of the devices by installing software to drive webcams, printers, and other peripherals, or to support unified communications technology. According to Samsung, administrators can also secure endpoints in a read-only state at the click of a button.

The NC-series includes the NC191 and NC241 models, which are certified for use with VMware View and include built-in access technology using the latest Teradici Tera2 chipset technology. They also feature SoC (system-on-chip) technology, which reduces the desktop attack surface and almost completely eliminates the need for client-side administration, according to the company.

Key features of the TC-series and NC-series cloud displays include:

  • 19-inch (TC191W and NC191) and 23.6-inch (TC241W and NC241) display sizes;
  • Hardware and cabling integrated into the display to minimize clutter;
  • Digital video output for attaching a second display;
  • Video input to plug in a computer and use the display as a temporary monitor;
  • 170-degree viewing angle with Samsung's Magic Angle technology;
  • 150-millimeter height-adjustable stand;
  • 90-degree pivot function and wall-mounting capability;
  • Advanced encoding and decoding for processing multimedia and high quality images; and
  • Tactile selection and function buttons.

The TC-series thin client and NC-series zero-client cloud displays are now available for order, with prices starting around $477.
