Panopto Updates Video Platform, Adds iOS App, Video-Capture Device

Panopto has released a new version of its video capture and management platform, which includes an iOS app and video-capture device.

Panopto 4.4, announced at Streaming Media East 2013, provides tools to create, broadcast, search, and share video content presentations. Course capture lets students add notes, search, review, and pause presentations, or submit their own multimedia recordings. Instructors can create screen captures, record audio and video using an iOS device or laptop, and add documents such as PDFs or PowerPoint slides. In addition, Panopto lets schools host live interactive online events such as Q&As.

Features of the iOS app include:

  • A touch interface for watching presentations and videos;
  • Search by keyword or topic in recordings;
  • Closed captions;
  • High-definition recording of videos; and
  • The ability to upload videos to Panopto’s video content management system.

In addition, in partnership with Epiphan Systems, Panopto has unveiled a plug-and-play video capture and recording device, dubbed the Panopto Certified Remote Recorder. The device allows schools to record and combine SD video camera input, audio input, and HD inputs from VGA, DVI, or HDMI. They can then upload recordings and schedule them with the Panopto system.

Panopto 4.4 also includes enhancements to its online video editor including transitioning between video segments. Multi-track video switching allows for recording of several tracks simultaneously and playback control.
