Updates to the open and scalable platform include a dynamic enterprise video portal, enhanced mobile capabilities and expanded video capture tools.

Other new and enhanced features include:

  • Interactive video portal called Mediasite Showcase that enables users to curate, spotlight and share live and on-demand content;
  • Enhanced mobile app that enables users to browse, search and watch Mediasite video or Showcase;
  • One-click publishing to YouTube, iTunes and iTunes U;
  • New capture solutions, including the RL100 and MultiView;
  • Expanded videoconference endpoint support for capturing, archiving, streaming and managing video meetings in the cloud; and
  • Ability to capture video from any mobile device and upload it to Mediasite.

Further information about Mediasite 7 can be found on Sonic Foundry's site.

In other Sonic Foundry news, a new international survey of higher education conducted by the company has found that "academic video creation and consumption with Mediasite is growing exponentially on college campuses."

Another survey, "Grade Change, Tracking Online Education in the United States," conducted by Babson Research Group in 2013, found that more than 7.1 million students — one third of the country's 21.3 million higher ed students — took at least one online course last year. Sean Brown, senior vice president of Sonic Foundry attributes that growth in online education to "the proliferation of creation and capture tools."

"From flipped classrooms and online courses to MOOCs and faculty development is transforming the way people learn, teach and" communicate, he said in a prepared statement.

The Sonic Foundry survey findings include:

  • Two million hours of academic video were created with Mediasite in 2013;
  • Mediasite videos receive more than 30 million views each year;
  • Mediasite video views on campus exceed consumer video consumption by 59 percent; and
  • Students increasingly watch Mediasite videos from mobile devices.

Additional survey results can be found on Sonic Foundry's site.
