The University of Arkansas is adding a new app to its safety arsenal. The Fayetteville institution is adopting Rave Guardian from Rave Mobile Safety to allow users to create a "virtual safety network" while on campus.

The app allows the user to set a timer that allows members of their network to monitor their location and status. If the timer goes off or a user initiates a panic call, the app notifies the university's police department. The same app also allows users to send anonymous tips and photos to the police and provides for two-way messaging with public safety personnel.

The university already uses Smart911, another Rave service, this one free, which allows subscribers from the campus community to create a safety profile that can be used in emergency situations. When a person places a 911 call, emergency dispatchers automatically gain access to the profile.

The Rave Guardian app is available for iOS and Android devices.

Rave Guardian is also in use at Providence College in Rhode Island and the University of Texas at Tyler, among other schools.
