Rochester Institute of Tech Taps Private Partner To Support Cybersecurity Ed

The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) has partnered with a course provider in an effort to beef up its offerings for students interested in cybersecurity.

The school has teamed with Logical Operations, which will provide a scholarship to one student in the Department of Computing Security of the B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences each year, donate equipment and courseware and sponsor a hacking competition. Students will also take a pilot course from the company, "Cybersec First Responder: Threat Detection and Response," in the fall. The course will cover threat analysis, secure networks, handling security incidents and other skills.

"With a growing demand for cybersecurity professionals, now is the right time for students to be getting into computing security, and we are excited to partner with Logical Operations in allowing more students to do so," said Bo Yuan, associate professor and chair of RIT's Department of Computing Security, in a prepared statement. "The work Logical Operations does is important to promoting the awareness of cybersecurity issues and educating the employees of companies who are responding to those challenges that we continually hear about in the news."

"We are thrilled to partner with RIT in support of cybersecurity education," said Bill Rosenthal, CEO of Logical Operations, in a news release. "Now more than ever, building cybersecurity skills at the college level, prior to students entering the workforce, is critical; this will lead to more qualified IT professionals who are ready to protect and defend their future organizations from imminent security threats."
