Applications Open for Online Engineering and Design Course Grants

A company that provides online training for engineering and design topics has opened its school grant application process for the upcoming school year. SolidProfessor reported that it delivered more than $3 million in technology grants last year to middle and high schools and colleges and universities and expected to exceed that in the coming year. The in-kind grants provide discounts on the company's curriculum.

One recipient, Tulsa Tech in Oklahoma, used the grant to gain access to courses on SolidWorks and to help students prepare for the 3D design company's certification program.

"Once I found SolidProfessor and their technology grant program, I set up assignments for my students, and then we could spend time in class on lessons that continue to build on the skills they learned on their own," said instructor Michael Doering, in a press release. "Now I can make sure everyone is getting the same information. The lessons are right to the point. They have worked for my students."

The school said that nine of Doering's students passed the Certified SolidWorks Associate — one of them with a perfect score.

SolidProfessor also has courses on applications from AutoDesk, Onshape, Mastercam and CAMWorks as well as training on SketchUp and 3D printing.

Educators may apply for a technology grant on the SolidProfessor website.
