Flatiron School, Birchbox Launch Women in Tech Initiative

The Flatiron School, an outcomes-based coding bootcamp based in New York City, has teamed up with Birchbox, a female-founded online subscription service for makeup and other beauty products, in an effort to increase female representation in the computer science field.

According to a blog post announcement, the companies partnered to launch the Women Take Tech initiative, which will provide $100,000 in scholarship funding this month alone to train aspiring female software engineers. The companies will select 25 women to receive reduced tuition to Flatiron’s Online Web Developer Program, which guarantees a job as a web developer. Students can work at their own pace remotely, receiving direct feedback from Flatiron’s instructors who will review their code and projects throughout the program. The initiative will cut students’ monthly tuition fees in half, from $1,500 to $700 a month. Additionally, Flatiron and Birchbox will host an event series featuring the latter’s female tech leaders, who will offer advice on common obstacles women may face in tech.
