10 Institutions Opening 'Metaversity' Campuses

This fall, students at 10 colleges and universities across the United States will be able to take courses on a "metaversity" campus, an exact virtual replica of their institution's physical campus. Each campus was built by education metaverse company VictoryXR on EngageVR, a virtual world building platform for immersive meetings, virtual events and learning experiences.

The metaversity courses will be synchronous, and students can attend whether they are learning on campus or remotely. Each student will receive a Meta Quest 2 virtual reality headset for use during their course (courses can also be accessed via PC). Within the virtual learning environment, they will be able to engage with other students and their instructor in VR experiences such as delving into human anatomy, taking a time machine through history or studying astronomy on a spaceship.

Ten participating institutions are offering digital twin campuses (including one existing metaversity and nine new metaversities):

"We know remote learning is exploding and we also know there's a better way than the status quo," commented Steve Grubbs, VictoryXR CEO, in a statement. "A metaversity campus is the solution that makes remote learning work for students and professors."
