Several Universities Partner with EdX to Offer AI Boot Camps in Fall 2023

Online learning platform edX has announced AI boot camps to start this fall at several universities nationwide. The online program will be especially geared to early- and mid-career professionals who wish to build AI skills rapidly for entry-level positions, the company said.

The part-time, 24-week program will teach topics in data science, machine learning, and AI, including "Python, unsupervised and supervised machine learning, transformers, natural language processing, AI applications, time series forecasting, and AI and data ethics," edX said. Classes will be taught live by industry professionals, with students assisted by on-demand tutors.

The boot camps will start in September 2023 at the following schools (follow links for more information): Michigan State University, University of Denver, The Ohio State University College of Engineering, and Southern Methodist University. Registration for these university boot camp courses is available at the edX boot camp page.

Classes will start in November at Columbia University's Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, University of Utah, and University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

In a recent edX survey conducted across the U.S., 42% of technical hiring managers said job candidates will need AI skills to get hired, but less than 20% currently have them. In the same survey, 82% of learners said they researched AI education programs in the last six months, and edX said there has been an 80% increase in searches for AI on its website in that period.

"Every individual, irrespective of their profession or trade, stands to benefit from a fundamental understanding of AI — it is now a requisite literacy in our times," said Anant Agarwal, founder of edX and chief platform officer at 2U. "The Artificial Intelligence Boot Camp with edX will help equip more people with the AI knowledge and skills necessary to augment their capabilities and ensure they're harnessing the myriad opportunities unfolding in this fascinating and rapidly shifting technology."

Along with this AI boot camp, edX offers other trainings, including machine learning, AI micro boot camps, and ChatGPT open courses. The open courses are free to audit, the company said. To learn more about edX's offerings, visit the home page.
