Utah Tech University Equips New Science Building and Other Classrooms with Extron AV Technology

Utah Tech (UT) University in St. George has outfitted its new Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) building with Extron's latest audiovisual (AV) technology, as well as retrofitting additional rooms across campus in order to standardize their systems.

Extron installed switching, distribution, control, and audio amplification equipment in 35 classrooms, labs, lecture halls, and conference rooms in the new 163,000-square-foot building. It also retrofitted 175 rooms across 31 other campus buildings with equipment that can be managed remotely, the company said in a release.

Features of the new installations and retrofits include:

  • A DTP CrossPoint matrix switcher with built-in audio amplifier and control processor in standard SET classrooms and lecture halls to which multiple devices can connect;
  • Sixteen dissection stations with shared video to make viewing easier in both SET anatomy labs;
  • HC 402 meeting collaboration systems in private study rooms surrounding SET lounges;
  • DTP switching and ShareLink Pro wireless in SET conference rooms; and
  • The same standard SET classroom design in smaller retrofitted classrooms across campus, but scaled up or down depending on need.

"The campuswide standardization initiative focused on consistency," said Shaun Hayes, UT senior audiovisual administrator. "We want to provide instructors with a dependable and uniform AV experience in every room. We leverage GlobalViewer Enterprise to implement a strong AV management back-end to maximize AV system uptime."

"AV's system control and remote support models … make it extremely easy for AV professionals to design, configure, and manage complex rooms," he added.
