Internet2 Announces a New President and CEO to Step Up in October

Internet2, the member-driven nonprofit offering advanced network technology services and cyberinfrastructure to the research and education community has completed its search, which began this past May, for a new president and CEO to take the helm. Tripti Sinha, now chief technology officer at the University of Maryland, will succeed Howard Pfeffer effective October 15, 2025.

Sinha brings 30-plus years of experience in Internet policy and governance, along with her technical leadership and stewardship of numerous far-reaching initiatives. Her career has focused on advancing cyberinfrastructure and Internet technologies for research and education. As CTO at the University of Maryland, she heads the advanced cyberinfrastructure and Internet global services unit in the division of information technology and leads the university's advanced regional networking operations. She is also the executive director of a multi-state regional research and education network, the Mid-Atlantic Crossroads (MAX), and oversees the National Quantum Laboratory. She is chair of the board of directors of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). Sinha has served as chair of the board of directors of The Quilt.

A statement she offered to the press highlights Sinha's expectations for her new role: "It is a privilege to step into the role of president and CEO at Internet2, an organization with a mission that is critical to the future of research and education," said Sinha. "The collaborative spirit of this community is one of our greatest strengths. I look forward to working with our community and staff to continue pioneering innovative solutions and developing a shared vision for the future."

Cynthia Larive, chancellor of the University of California Santa Cruz, Internet2 board vice chair, and chair of the Internet2 CEO search committee, noted, "With clarity, authenticity, and purpose, [Tripti Sinha] is well-positioned to expand upon our collective successes and deliver new value to uplift the research and education community."
