New Absolute Software Release Secures and Manages Handhelds

Absolute Software has released Computrace Mobile, an application to help organizations manage and secure handheld devices within their mobile computer population. IT administrators can install Computrace Mobile on supported handheld devices, enabling them to delete sensitive data remotely from lost or stolen devices.
"[We're] always concerned about the security of our devices and the data stored on them," said Brian Kelly, director of information security and network operations at
Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT. "We can now use Computrace Mobile to manage and track mobile assets, giving us visibility into a previously unmanaged area. Additionally Computrace Mobile supports the full range of Secure Data Delete operations." Kelly tried the application as a beta tester for the program.
Once the Computrace Agent is installed on a device, the administrator can use 28 preconfigured reports or a customized one to get information about hardware, configuration, the user profile and installed software. From the device’s password-protected Computrace control panel, the IT person can force a test call; view the time, type and success of last call; view the electronic serial number; view version information; and change the password.
Computrace Data Protection allows administrators to track stationary, remote and mobile computer assets and remotely wipe sensitive data if the computer is lost, stolen or nearing the end of its lifecycle.
Computrace Mobile is supported on Windows Mobile 5 and 6 handheld devices including the HP iPAQ, HTC Touch, MOTO Q, Treo 750, and Samsung BlackJack.
