Fox Business School To Launch Temple U's First MOOC

Temple University's Fox School of Business will launch the institution's first massive open online course this September.

The four-week course, Quantitative Methods for Business, will use CourseSites, Blackboard's free online learning platform, and will feature on-demand activities in a "mobile-friendly format," proctored exams, and the opportunity to "collaborate with faculty and peers through WebEx web-conferencing technology," according to a university news release.

"This graduate course will offer a broad foundation in quantitative methods so that anyone interested in business, from seasoned managers to aspiring entrepreneurs, can sharpen their skills," said Darin Kapanjie, managing director of Fox Online and Digital Learning and academic director of the Fox Online MBA and BBA programs, in a prepared statement. "Students will engage in weekly class activities through WebEx, collaborate on group projects, and complete assignments just as if they were enrolled in the Online MBA program."

Students who successfully complete the course requirements will receive a course waiver if they choose to join the school's online MBA program. Those who do not wish to join the program will be eligible for a certificate of completion.

"If people are going to try out a course to really let them know they have what it takes to be in a rigorous, highly ranked, well-respected MBA program, we want to provide every opportunity to do so," Kapanjie, who will also teach the course, said in a news release. "We also want to deliver the same dynamic, collaborative, interactive course so students can learn in the environment they'd be in if and when they enroll at Fox."

Established in 1918, the Fox School of Business serves nearly 6,500 students with 180 full-time faculty. More information is available at fox.temple.edu.
