U Iowa Consolidates Support Units in Office of Teaching, Learning and Technology
The University of Iowa will launch a new Office of Teaching, Learning and Technology for the fall 2015 semester in an effort to better meet the needs of faculty, instructors and teaching assistants.
The office will bring together U Iowa's Center for Teaching, ITS Instructional Services the Evaluation and Examination Service in one office. The move was sponsored by Chief Information Officer Steve Fleagle and Associate Provost Beth Ingram. The office will be headed by Maggie Jesse, senior director of IT Services.
The new office will work to enhance teaching and learning environments at the university and to facilitate data-driven improvements through assessment support and evaluation of new initiatives.
A committee of faculty and staff will offer advice on the transition of the three support units in an effort to "ensure positive impact across campus," according to a news release.
"This reorganization is part of our strategy to support, develop and encourage faculty and TA professional teaching and learning strategies, including active-learning pedagogies, and to leverage and expand our position as a national leader in active-learning," according to information released by the university. "The question, 'What academic learning experience do you want your students to have?' will be at the heart of the new office's efforts; that question spans pedagogy, faculty and TA professional development, facilities and technology."
