In other Sonic Foundry news, a new international survey of higher education
conducted by the company has found that "academic video creation and consumption with Mediasite is
growing exponentially on college campuses."
Another survey, "Grade Change, Tracking Online Education in the United States,"
conducted by Babson Research Group in 2013, found that more than 7.1 million
students — one third of the country's 21.3 million higher ed students — took
at least one online course last year. Sean Brown, senior vice president of Sonic
Foundry attributes that growth in online education to "the proliferation of
creation and capture tools."
"From flipped classrooms and online courses to MOOCs and faculty development
is transforming the way people learn, teach and" communicate, he said in a
prepared statement.
The Sonic Foundry survey findings include:
- Two million hours of academic video were created with Mediasite in 2013;
- Mediasite videos receive more than 30 million views each year;
- Mediasite video views on campus exceed consumer video consumption by 59
percent; and
- Students increasingly watch Mediasite videos from mobile devices.
Additional survey results can be found on
Sonic Foundry's site.
