Embry-Riddle Expands Dual Enrollment to Online Courses

Embry-Riddle dual enrollment logoA university with 150 campuses around the world and online offerings has just opened up dual enrollment specifically for high schoolers. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University - Worldwide will allow students in grades 10, 11 and 12 take classes through its online program. They can earn up to 24 hours of college credit in pre-aeronautics, pre-engineering, advanced math and other courses.

This isn't the institution's first experience with dual enrollment. It has partnerships with numerous school districts in Arizona as well as one each in Florida, Georgia and Nevada. In those locations, the dual enrollment classes are taught during the regular school day on high school property, and students receive both high school and college credit. The online program is based on a "joint enrollment model"; the student receives only college credit unless his or her high school decides to award credit for the course.

The cost for undergraduate tuition in the 2014-2015 school year is $335 per credit hour. The program's first term begins in September.

"Embry-Riddle Worldwide has a proven track record in delivering online education. It only made sense to apply the same delivery model to dual enrollment students, which allows us to reach more students in faraway places," said J. Michael Williams, executive director of enrollment services and partnerships. "By taking these courses online, Embry-Riddle has a unique opportunity to prepare young people for careers in these disciplines around the world."
