Smart Board 600 Series Adds Touch Recognition

Smart Technologies has added touch recognition to its Smart Board 600 series of interactive whiteboards. The new capability allows the board to distinguish between a finger and a pen--and even the palm of the hand.

The new technology allows fingers, pens, and hands to be used to simulate various writing tools. Smart cited an example of using a pen for writing, a finger for manipulating on the screen, and a hand for erasing.

The new touch capabilities are available now in all Smart Board 600 series whiteboards. Upgrades from 600 series whiteboards that do not have touch recognition run $147. Smart Boards start at $699 for education institutions.
