West Virginia U Rolls Out Lecture Capture in Health Sciences Center
The Health Sciences Center at West Virginia University is deploying lecture capture technologies to serve students in its medical, nursing, pharmacy, and dentistry programs.
For the deployment, the university is using Camtasia Relay from TechSmith. Camtasia Relay is a lecture capture solution that can be used on Mac OS X and Windows systems for classroom recording. It offers LDAP integration and encoding in multiple formats, including MP3, MP4, Real, and Windows Media, for publishing to a variety of destinations, including common learning management systems and iTunes U, among others.
"Its incredible time savings and ease-of-use makes Camtasia Relay the single greatest find for our IT department this year," said Eric Coffman, network manager at West Virginia University HSC, in a prepared statement. "There is a high student demand for lecture capture and Camtasia Relay has allowed us to meet those demands without putting a great burden on our IT department. With Camtasia Relay we have found a lecture capture solution that empowers the individual instructors to record and share lectures with no IT support and gives students the ability to view their lectures anytime and anywhere - including on their favorite portable media device."
West Virginia University serves nearly 29,000 students, including about 22,000 undergraduates and about 7,000 graduate and professional students. The Health Sciences Center serves about 5,000 students and employs more than 500 faculty and staff.
