Cengage Learning and MathJax Partner To Improve Online Equations

Educational content and software developer Cengage Learning has entered into a partnership with MathJax, an open source JavaScript display engine, to improve the way mathematical and scientific equations display in Cengage's digital math and chemistry learning platforms.

MathJax will provide MindTap, Cengage Learning's online learning resource platform, with integrated content for displaying complex STEM-related equations and formulas such as quadratic formulas and cosines, which can also be also be easily viewed and accessible in all types of Web browsers.

In addition, to resolving display issues, within MindTap students will be able to underscore and add notes to equations and formulas, zoom in to view equation details, and use the copy and paste function to copy equations from Web pages into word documents, science blogs, wikis, calculation software, and other formats for later study and reference.

MathJax features include:

  • Compatibility with all browsers;
  • Simple integration with no plugins or fonts to install;
  • Uses CSS and Web font typography rather than images or flash; and
  • Compatibility with screenreaders for visually impaired readers.

MindTap combines reading, multimedia, activities, assessment, and apps to provide students with a customized learning path. To learn more about MindTap, visit  cengage.com/mindtap.

Established by the American Mathematical Society, Design Science, and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics in 2009, MathJax developed an open source JavaScript library to display mathematics on the Web. For more information, go to matchjax.org.
