California Institution Taps Unicon for Sakai Services

California's Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising is enlisting open source services company Unicon to support its Sakai learning management system.

Unicon is hosting FIDM's Sakai environment, providing SLA-based ticketed support and management for capacity planning, reliability/availability and security posture of covered services. Unicon also performed enhancements to the Sakai Gradebook tool, including user interface and course grades entry modifications.

"The Gradebook now fully supports our workflow for communicating student progress and grades to FIDM's student information system, while providing more access to students to review their final grades in a timely manner," said Dave Melone, director of e-learning at FIDM, in a prepared statement. "This has also brought more value to our faculty by improving the process for reporting final grades and activity via the FIDM E-Learning System easily and electronically."
