Judson University Boosts Bandwidth

Judson University has implemented fiber-based Ethernet services at its main campus in Elgin, IL, to increase the bandwidth available to students and faculty accessing online classes and educational resources, as well as for administrative and recreational network usage.

"Strengthening and more fully integrating technology into the academic, co-curricular and business affairs of Judson University is a core goal outlined in our new five-year strategic plan," said Brent Richardson, assistant vice president of information technology for Judson University, in a prepared statement.

The university selected WOW! Business, a provider of IP-based network, data, voice and cloud services for the Chicago area, "to help the university upgrade to a more robust Ethernet network and IT infrastructure that offers faster Internet and data speeds, improves the use of multimedia in common areas and enables more advanced voice services," said Richardson.

The company will allocate bandwidth of up to 10 gigabits per second (Gbps) to the university, and because the company has "rich local fiber assets" throughout that area, it "can extend fiber into the Judson University buildings and activate Ethernet circuits and other services quickly without disruptions," according to a news release from the company.

In addition to providing faster access to educational resources and online classes, the service will also support on-campus Internet, voice, data, video and cloud computing services.

Judson University is a liberal arts university serving 1,200 students at its main campus in Elgin, IL, located about 45 miles northwest of Chicago.
