ETS and Mercer County Community College Sign Three-Year Agreement

ETS and Mercer County Community College (MCCC) signed today a three-year agreement to collaborate in the development and piloting of assessment and instructional solutions for community colleges. It is the first such agreement between ETS and a community college.

A nationally-renowned learning community, MCCC will collaborate with ETS to create new outcomes assessments, student learning, and student engagement tools specifically designed to serve community colleges. George Washington U. to Offer Course Lectures Via iTunes

George Washington University is teaming up with Apple Computer Inc. to offer audio recordings of classroom lectures over the Internet using the iTunes music program. The new software, called “iTunes U,” is designed to record lectures and broadcast them over the iTunes network where students can download them onto their computer or iPod.

The new digital audio service will be available for 15 courses this fall, and is likely to expand to include more course lectures, guest lectures, and video recordings. GW joins a group of schools, including the University of Michigan, Stanford University, the University of Wisconsin, and Duke University, who are participating in pilot programs to experiment with the iTunes U software...

Computer Theft in Minnesota

According to university officials, a computer theft at the University of Minnesota may have compromised the personal data of more than 13,000 past and present University of Minnesota students. Two computers stolen from the desk of a university program coordinator in August contained information about 13,084 students who enrolled in the school as freshmen between 1991 and 2006.

Files included such information as names, birth dates, addresses, phone numbers, the high school they attended, student identification numbers, grades, test scores, and academic probation. There are no suspects in the robbery as yet...
