Macworld 2007

Steve JobsExpected Surprises. Macworld regular keynoter Steve Jobs seems to top himself year after year. This year’s unveiling of the iPhone was no exception. Jobs gave a detailed demonstration of the phone’s features to a cheering, packed hall. The famous Apple exec also casually announced that the company would now be known as Apple Inc.

Macworld 2007Curious Crowds. As usual, the expo hall stayed crowded all week, and Apple’s exhibit area was the biggest draw. Attendees could see the iPhone (encased in a glass dome), not to be released until June.

Bill GatesTrustworthy on the Mind. This year was the biggest year ever for the RSA Conference, drawing more than 17,000 to San Francisco’s Moscone Center. Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates shared the opening keynote spotlight with Chief Research and Strategy Officer Craig Mundie. The 5th anniversary of Microsoft’s Trustworthy Computing initiative was high on Gates’ list of things to talk about during the “informal” sit-down conversation between the two.

Craig MundieA Tougher Challenge. Talking about the threat landscape, Mundie reflected: “Today, it’s a lot more serious; it’s a lot more nefarious than it was five or six years ago. And the fact that we have so many things connected and we have so many people connected—not just hundreds of millions of PCs, but going on billions of phones, and rolling out more and more things all the time—this challenge is going to get tougher.”
