Saint Leo To Deploy Campus-wide WiFi Net

Florida's Saint Leo University will deploy a campus-wide WiFi network powered by technology from Xirrus, which will serve more than 14,000 students, educators, and staff.

The network, originally slated for deployment several years ago, was delayed  by the private school owing to concerns that offerings at the time would not be able to serve up WiFi as students' primary means of connectivity. The school also wanted a network that was engineered for an easy upgrade path to 802.11n once the standard is finalized.

“The Xirrus architecture is a real networking platform to build our Wi-Fi infrastructure upon; similar to our approach of standardizing our wired switching infrastructure," said Saint Leo University CIO Steve Burrell.

Saint Leo has already deployed the network at its Duluth, GA satellite campus. It will then deploy at its new Student Community Center Complex and the Cannon Memorial Library, both on its main campus in Saint Leo, FL. The network will ultimately serve the entire Saint Leo campus.
