Drexel Hosts 'PodCamp Philly' on New Media Apps

Drexel University hosted a conference last week on new media applications, a "PodCamp" to "promote the use of new media to television, newspapers, radio, businesses, educators, and individuals." The conference was free to "podcasters and listeners, bloggers and readers, and anyone interested in new media."
 
Drexel called the meeting an "unconference," although that normally refers to a spontaneous meeting of  people with mutual interests. The university used the term "in the sense that participants are also experts and anyone who is interested can present ideas, thoughts, and best practices," it said.

Drexel chemistry professor Jean-Claude Bradley, who hosts chemistry podcasts and blogs for his students, led a session on using the virtual world Second Life in higher education. Drexel has bought an island on Second Life, and Bradley is one of the first Drexel professors to incorporate the virtual community in his curriculum.

Other sessions focused on how bloggers and podcasters are turning their  blogs into books, how bloggers can benefit a newspaper's online presence, search engine optimization, and audio editing.
