Teaching with Sakai Innovation Award Established

The Sakai Foundation has announced the establishment of the Teaching with Sakai Innovation Award to recognize transformative education applications of Sakai. The TWSI award is sponsored by IBM, a Sakai Commercial Affiliate, and organized by the recently formed Sakai OpenEd Practices group (www.openedpractices.org).

The first award will be presented at the 9th Sakai Conference, July 1-3, 2008, and the winner will receive a trip to Paris to participate in that event. Entries will be used to start a collection in the openedpractices.org repository, an effort designed to produce a community of practice for teaching and learning with open and community source tools, and supported in part by the rSmart Group and the Association of American Colleges and Universities.

"The Teaching with Sakai Innovation Award and newly launched 'Opened Practices' repository will allow us to capture and share these educationally transformative applications of Sakai with all of education," explains Josh Baron, Sakai Foundation Board Member and Director of Academic Technology and eLearning at Marist College.

To learn more about the TWSI award and to access an online application and an evaluation rubric, visit www.openedpractices.org. The application deadline is April 14, 2008 at midnight GMT.
