GET THEE TO INFOCOMM. Professional audiovisual trade show InfoComm 08 opens June 14 in Las Vegas, showcasing technologies in display and projection, lighting and staging, digital signage, collaborative conferencing, networking, digital content creation, and more. This year, InfoComm has teamed up with the National Systems Contractors Association to merge InfoComm's annual trade show with the NSCA Systems Integration Expo. BOOSTING PARTICIPATION. Rave Wireless has launched a marketing support program to help its university clients boost student enrollment in campuswide mobile software and emergency alerting initiatives. The marketing toolkit includes videos and template ads that universities can customize for e-mail campaigns, posters, campus newspaper advertisements, etc., to educate students about the Rave mobile safety and learning programs.

OPEN SOURCE MOBILE PORTAL. The Johns Hopkins University (MD) has selected Unicon to develop and deploy a mobility framework for the school's portal, based on the uPortal open source enterprise portal solution. JHU aims to enhance the functionality and content of its campus portal to make it accessible by mobile devices such as cell phones, smart phones, and PDAs. The university plans to donate the mobile development work back to the uPortal open source community. Read more here.

PLAN! AHEAD. This month, online learning and collaboration vendor Elluminate is unveiling Elluminate Plan!, a module that will allow course designers and instructors to plan and package content and interactive activities prior to being used in a real-time virtual class session. The system can schedule specific actions to occur during a live class presentation, such as sharing a document, opening a URL in a web browser, playing a video, and more. Instructors also can choose to deviate from or pause planned content as needed.

A NEW ERP system from Jenzabar will help BYU-Idaho meet the needs of non-traditional students.

ERP MOVE. Brigham Young University-Idaho is migrating from a homegrown ERP system to Jenzabar's Total Campus Management solution. The new solution includes Jenzabar CX (featuring an open architecture for seamless integration with third-party products), Jenzabar's Internet Campus Solution, and the Jenzabar Non-Traditional System (NTS). By managing the unique challenges of continuing education, degree completion, certificate, and other nontraditional programs, the Jenzabar NTS will help the university respond to the growth of online students, adult learners, and other non-traditional students.

WELCOME TO SHIBBOLETH 2.0. Internet2 has released Shibboleth 2.0, the latest major version of its open-source federated authentication suite. Enhancements include increased interoperability with other commercial- and open-source federated identity solutions; improved personalization and security; and easier installation, management, and operation processes.

Tom Axbey TAKING THE HELM AT RAVE. Mobile safety applications provider Rave Wireless has announced the appointment of Tom Axbey as CEO. Most recently, he served as senior VP and general manager for Micromuse, a provider of business-critical software to telecommunications, finance, and public-sector clients (acquired by IBM).

Mark Kingdon NEW CEO FOR SL . Linden Lab, developer of the 3D virtual world Second Life, has named Mark Kingdon as CEO. Kingdon previously served as CEO of Organic, a digital communications agency and provider of user-centered design.
