Toshiba Debuts Mobile, Wireless Projectors

At the Infocomm 2008 conference in Las Vegas this week, Toshiba debuted three new mobile projectors and two conference room projectors, including a wireless model with Windows Vista networking capabilities.

Included in Toshiba's new projector lineup, which debuted Wednesday, are three sub-$900 mobile projectors using single-chip DLP technology. The TDP-XP2U is the brightest in the new mobile projector lineup, offering 2,500 ANSI lumens. It also features a resolution of 1,024 x 768 (XGA) and a contrast ratio of 2,000:1. It sells for $899 base.

The TDP-XP1U, weighing in at 4.8 pounds, offers a resolution of 1,024 x 768 (XGA), a contrast ratio of 700:1, and a brightness of 2,000 ANSI lumens. It sells for $779 base.

On the lower end of the new mobile lineup is the $719, 4.8-pound TDP-SP1U. It offers a resolution of 800 x 600 (SVGA), a brightness of 2,200 ANSI lumens, and a contrast ratio of 2,000:1. As of this writing, the SP1U is the only one of the new mobile models currently available, although Toshiba said that the others will launch during InfoComm--so presumably by the end of the week.

Also debuting this week are the new TDP-T420U and TDP-TW420U conference room projectors. Both of the new models offer a resolution of 1,024 x 768, a brightness of 4,000 ANSI lumens, and a contrast ratio of 2,000:1. The TW420U also offers integrated wireless capabilities, along with WIndows Vista networking for remote control and for notifications regarding the status of the unit, including temperature, fan, and lamp status. The T420U sells for $2,679. The wireless TW420U sells for $2,919.
