University of Leeds Deploys Verint IP Video Solution

As part of a campus-wide security enhancement, the University of Leeds in West Yorkshire, England has deployed the Verint System Nextiva Enterprise IP video solution.

The university has deployed the IP video system in certain public places, both on the main campus and in a number of remote locations, including a computer cluster at Leeds General Infirmary.

"The Verint solution is proving very successful and already delivering excellent results across our departments," said Simon Mulholland, a project manager within the Network Team at the university. "By alerting us to any difficulties, Nextiva will help our teams prevent any incidents and improve our response time."

Nextiva consists of a suite of hardware and software for recording, analyzing, and managing digital video. Hardware consists of wireless devices, encoders, decoders, IP cameras and embedded DVRs. Software provides video analytics to detect unusual events in the video, video management, and video distribution.

The University of Leeds is the second largest university in the UK with 30,500 students and 8,000 staff and faculty. It's estimated that Britain now has one surveillance camera in operation for every 14 people in that country, although specific figures are somewhat shaky and based on data gathered several years ago.
