Q1 Labs Offers Free Tool for Log and Compliance Management

Q1 Labs announced the availability of a free, downloadable log management and compliance product that provides users with visibility across networks, data centers, and infrastructures.

QRadar Simple Log and Information Management Free Edition (SLIM FE) lets IT professionals collect, analyze, report, and store network, host, server, application, and security event logs, via syslog, from any source, including routers, switches, and security devices.

The tool offers many of the same capabilities found in the company's appliance-based version, also called SLIM. The free edition is intended for networks that have fewer than 50 events per second coming from their log sources.

The company has also launched a log management user community, a Web site allowing users to collaborate and obtain technical and product information, exchange ideas regarding log management and security-related issues via an online forum, and gain access to developer tools for implementing device support modules.

"Over the last few years, we have seen a rapid change in the attention paid to the enterprise security market as data breaches have impacted some of the largest and most well-known organizations. As a result, log management has become a requirement for best practices and compliance mandates, including PCI, Sarbanes-Oxley, and FISMA," said Chris Christiansen, program vice president of security products and services at research firm IDC. "Q1 Labs is helping to address this need by making this important functionality available to more potential users--and at no cost."

"Many organizations will be able to benefit from QRadar SLIM FE--particularly in these challenging economic times," said Shaun McConnon, CEO. "QRadar SLIM FE is a fully functional log management solution that competes directly with other pure-play log management offerings, yet uniquely provides users with a seamless path to full [security information and event management]."
