Prism Microsystems Posts Free Log Search Tool

Prism Microsystems, which sells security information and event log management technology, has released EventTracker Pulse, a free search engine for log data that provides system administrators with network-wide information.

Available as a software download, EventTracker Pulse automates the real-time collection and long-term archiving of all log data from clients and servers running Windows and Linux, Cisco devices, applications, and any other syslog source. A Google-like interface allows users to locate, for example, the root cause of service degradations or IT failures for remediation, or in the event of an internal breach, pinpoint who did what and when and plug security holes.

"Logs offer the potential to provide deep understanding on most aspects of IT. However, manually extracting ... intelligence from voluminous, distributed, and cryptic log data is impossible without system-specific technical knowledge and large amounts of time to spare," said Steve Lafferty, vice president of marketing for the vendor. "EventTracker Pulse puts this information right into the hands of system administrators and empowers them to easily investigate activity across the IT infrastructure."

The utility also provides one-click access to the online Prism knowledgebase for descriptions on 20,000 events generated by sources that include Windows, syslog, application-specific logs, and Cisco equipment.
