USC Deploys New Version of Apache Jetspeed

The University of Southern California (USC) has deployed the new version of Apache Jetspeed, the open source enterprise portal that is maintained and serviced by Hippo, on which it has run its staff intranet since 2006. The system covers USC's financial information systems and administrative information services.

Hippo's portal software uses open source Java-based Web components (JSR-168) and underlying application programming interfaces that facilitate compatibility between applications and servers. Jetspeed-2 provides a standard mechanism for the deployment of portlets, accommodates multi-threaded functionality, and is based on component architecture. The new release integrates with USC's university-standardized federated identity system for user authentication and authorization.
