Southwestern Oklahoma State Rolls Out Public Digital Repository

Southwestern Oklahoma State University has launched a new publicly accessible online digital repository, providing access to the university's historical documents.

The SWOSU Digital Repository is currently providing access to all of the university's yearbooks from 1906 to 1993. It will also include archives of its student newspaper, The Southwestern, and a keyword-searchable version of the 1651 edition of Nicholai Culpeper’s A Physical Directory, according to information released by SWOSU.

“When we first looked at ebrary last year, we were primarily interested in subscribing to Academic Complete and offering simultaneous, multi-user access to over 42,900 multidisciplinary titles to our students, faculty and staff,” said Jon Sparks, director of libraries at SWOSU, in a statement released this week. “We were delighted to learn that we could use the same sophisticated technology to host our own yearbooks and newspapers, and look forward to making more of our digital materials available to the public.”

The ebrary system is a hosted digital repository platform that provides a suite of tools for content management and presentation, including contextual linking to online resources, various search and navigation options, personal bookshelves for storing links, automatic citations, highlighting, annotation, text to speech capabilities, and a variety of viewing options.

Southwestern Oklahoma State University serves about 4,500 students on its main campus in Weatherford, OK and a branch campus in Sayre.
