Epson Expands LCD Projector Line with Smaller EX Models

Epson introduced three upgrades to the company's EX line of portable projectors. The Epson EX31, EX51, and EX71 achieve a 30 percent decrease in size and 20 percent decrease in weight, along with an increased brightness of 2,500 lumens for both color and white light output.

The projectors use USB Plug 'n' Play connectivity that instantly displays images and audio on both the projector and computer screen with when the USB cable is plugged in. They weigh slightly more than 5 lbs.

The only differences in this line are the resolutions. The EX31 is specified at SVGA resolution. The EX51 has XGA resolution and HDMI connectivity for high definition. The EX71 has widescreen WXGA resolution (16:10 aspect ratio).

Other features offered in the new series are:

  • Extended lamp life, using E-TORL lamp technology to last up to 5,000 hours in economy mode;
  • PC-free presentations with USB memory devices;
  • Quick on/off (six seconds to reach the the start-up screen, four seconds to power down);
  • A/V mute slide/sleep mode, which instantly turns off the sound and images to create a quick pause in the presentation;
  • Automatic keystone correction; and
  • 1.2x optical zoom.

Epson EX31 is priced at $549; the EX51 at $649; and the EX71 at $749. Further information can be found here.
