Philips Launches Wireless HDTV Link

Philips has debuted its new Wireless HDTV Link SWW1800/27, which sends 1080p signals wirelessly from source boxes and/or devices to the TV.

This eliminates the need for cables from the image source (HD cable set-top box, HD satellite receiver, Blu-ray player, etc.) to a high definition display. While this first announcement is targeted to consumer televisions, this technology, as do many consumer technologies, will likely soon make its way into the commercial and education markets.

The source devices can be positioned up to 75 feet away from the display without degradation to the signal, said Philips. It accepts four devices with two HDMI and two component connections, and switching the connections is done without having to swap cables between uses.

The receiver is specially designed to fit behind standard TV wall mounts to stay out of sight.

The Wireless HDTV Link SWW1800/27 is available for $799.
