Canon Intros 6 LCD Education Projectors

Canon has introduced six LCD projectors designed for classroom use--two high-resolution models and several high-light-output models for use in larger facilities or classrooms with higher than usual ambient light.

Two of the projectors, the LV-8310 and the LV-8215, offer a WXGA (1,280 x 800) resolution and an aspect ratio of 16:10. The LV-8310 features a brightness of 3,000 lumens and a contrast ratio of 500:1, while the LV-8215 features a brightness of 2,600 lumens and a contrast ratio of 450:1.

The four other projectors include the LV-7385, the LV-7380, the LV-7285, and the LV-7280. The projectors all have an XGA (1,024 x 768) resolution, an aspect ratio of 4:3, and a contrast ratio of 500:1. The LV-7285 and the LV-7280 feature a built-in auto-iris that can adjust the contrast ratio up to 2,000:1. Brightness on these models varies from 2,200 lumens to 3,500 lumens. The LV-7385 is on the high end, with 3,500 lumens of brightness. The LV-7380 has a brightness of 3,000 lumens, the LV-7285 2,600 lumens, and the LV-7280 2,200 lumens.

Features shared by the six projectors include network connectivity (via RJ-45), DVI-I inputs, RS-232 control, a quiet mode with an extended lamp life of 5,000 hours, a carbon reduction meter for calculating the amount of CO₂ saved in "quiet mode," stand-by mode that uses less than 1 watt of electricity, and an auto energy saver that switches the projector to silent mode when a video input is not detected.

The projectors are expected to ship in April and will be covered by Canon's three year parts and labor warranty. The LV-8310 will sell for $1,199; the LV-8215 will sell for $1,099; the LV-7385 will go for $1,699; the LV-7380 will run $999; the LV-7285 will cost $899; and the LV-7280 will run $799.
