Microsoft Moves to Digital Delivery for Academic Users

Microsoft is rolling out digital delivery of its software to academic users around the world with the help of e-academy, a company that already does online software delivery into the academic market.

Once they've enrolled in the electronic software delivery service, resellers and institutional customers can buy Microsoft software without additional paperwork or incurring shipping charges to deliver physical media. The two vendors are touting the new service as "environmentally friendly."

The new service works with Microsoft Academic Volume License programs, including Student Select, Student Option, and Work at Home. In addition to fulfillment of software delivery, e-academy handles the end user authentication, policy enforcement, e-commerce, and settlement and reporting services related to the transactions.
