Virginia Tech Renews Emergency Notification Service

Virginia Tech in Blacksburg has renewed its three-year contract for emergency notifications with Everbridge.

The institution will be running VT Alerts through the company's Aware service, which allows an authorized person to communicate to others through mobile and land phones, e-mail, texts, instant messaging, pagers, and other mechanisms.

Virginia Tech initially selected Everbridge after an extensive review of emergency communication systems following the fatal shootings on campus that took place in April 2007.

"We're committed to continuing to provide the best possible solutions to keep our students and staff safe," said Larry Hincker, associate vice president of university relations. "Everbridge provides the speed we need to reach thousands of students and hundreds of staff quickly via phone and text communication. We're pleased to continue to use the system as part of our integrated approach to campus security."
