Califone Rolls Out Interactive Wall Frame for Classrooms

Califone has unveiled a new wall-mountable frame that provides interactive whiteboard capabilities without a whiteboard or stylus.

The new frame, called the WB80, uses a projector, a computer, included software, and built in infrared sensors to triangulate and interpret the movements of a finger or pointing object into annotations that can be saved for future use.

The device has a work area of 48" x 64", a maximum cursor speed of 180 points per second, an initial response time of 25 milliseconds, and a continuous response time of 16 milliseconds.

Additional features include:

  • Red, blue, and multicolor annotations;
  • Magnification;
  • Annotation hiding;
  • Resizing capabilities;
  • Screen blanking;
  • A clock timer function; and
  • Screen capture.

The frame weighs 5 pounds and measures 48" (h) x 64" (w) x 0.5" (d). It can be mounted directly to wall or over an existing whiteboard.

Supported operating systems include Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Windows 2000.

The device is covered by a one-year school use warranty and currently ships for $1,170.
