Bloxx Updates Real-Time Web Filter

Bloxx, a company that produces Internet, email, and media filtering tools, has released an updated version of its Bloxx Web Filter for North America.

Rather than relying on a list of known URLs, the Bloxx Web Filter uses the company's Tru-View Technology, which uses "patented language analysis and intelligent identification techniques" to perform "live analysis and real-time categorization of a Web page," according to information released by the company.

Features new to this version of the Bloxx Web Filter include:

  • A new Ubuntu-based platform for faster performance;
  • An activity dashboard and real-time reporting tools;
  • An SSL decryption engine designed to filter SSL traffic and help protect against HTTPS resources and malware;
  • Radius Server authentication designed to cover wireless users;
  • Remote filtering for iOS devices;
  • A clustering capability for improved scalability; and
  • Controls for improved policy flexibility.

"Research from Google tells us that several billion new web pages come online every day, making it impossible for URL-search-only filters to protect companies and schools from inappropriate or malicious content," said Eamonn Doyle, president of Bloxx. "Tru-View Technology analyzes web content in real time, and blocks or grants access according to policy-based categories.  It can even block proxy sites used to get around second- generation URL-based filter tools."

The company has also recently made its Bloxx Secure Web Gateway available to North American customers. The Bloxx Secure Web Gateway combines Tru-View, Bloxx's SSL proxy, and Sophos anti-malware.

The tools are available in a range of packages. For example, three years of protection with the Bloxx 100W Web Filter, covering 100 devices, costs $6,395, while the Bloxx 1750S Secure Web Gateway runs $64,463. Both plans include "the appliance, software, next-day hardware replacement, installation, and unlimited technical support," according to information released by the company.
