Epson Debuts High-Light-Output G-Series Projectors

Epson has launched a new family of high-light-output projectors, the PowerLite Pro G-series. The new models, which debuted at the FETC 2013 conference taking place in Orlando, FL this week, offer brightness ratings up up to 7,000 lumens on a single lamp.

There are seven new models in the lineup, all of them 4,500 lumens or above. They range in resolution from XGA (1,024 x 768 pixels) to WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200 pixels). All of the new models are installation projectors and include features found in Epson's PowerLite Pro Z-series, such as point and arc image correction, 360-degree projection, and edge blending.

Specific models include:

  • PowerLite Pro G6450WU, 4,500 lumens, WUXGA resolution;
  • PowerLite Pro G6550WU, 5,200 lumens, WUXGA resolution;
  • PowerLite Pro G6050W, 5,500 lumens, WXGA resolution (1,200 x 800 pixels);
  • PowerLite Pro G6750WU, 6,000 lumens, WUXGA resolution;
  • PowerLite Pro G6900WU, 6,000 lumens, WUXGA resolution;
  • PowerLite Pro G6150, 6,500 lumens, XGA resolution; and
  • PowerLite Pro G6800, 7,000 lumens, XGA resolution.

All of the models include HDMI and DisplayPort connectors. Three of the new models--the G6750WU, G6800, and G6900WU--also include HDBaseT. The G6900WU includes both HDBaseT and SDI. (HDBaseT is a media communications technology that uses CAT-5e/6 cables to distribute audio, video, data, power, and control signals. It supports 10.2 Gbps HD audio and video, up to 100 watts of power, 100 Mbps Ethernet communications, HDCP, and USB. Cable lengths can run up to 328 feet and can include up to eight hops, for a maximum length of 2,624 feet, or about 800 meters.)

Other features common to all of the models include:

  • The ability to stack multiple projectors for 3D applications;
  • Various lens options, including short-throw;
  • Lens shift lock; and
  • New image correction and optimization technologies, including a Faroudja DCDi chipset and Epson's C²Fine technology.

Further specs were not available at press time.

Four of the new models will ship in April: the PowerLite Pro G6550WU ($4,999), PowerLite Pro G6450WU ($3,999), PowerLite Pro G6050W ($3,799), and PowerLite Pro G6150 ($3,599). The PowerLite Pro G6750WU ($5,999) is expected to ship in May. And the PowerLite Pro G6900WU ($6,499) and PowerLite Pro G6800 ($4,799) are expected to be available in July.
