Boeckeler Instruments Unveils New Annotation System with iPad Control

Boeckeler Instruments has launched a new annotation system, the Pointmaker CPN-5600 HDCP, which features a hardware-based video processor and enables users to display and share content from an iPad or multiple video and computer sources.

The PVI Control iPad app integrates with the CPN-5600 to let users change settings such as annotation colors and line styles; switch between 9 video sources; and remotely select common Pointmaker commands, such as capture, print and network setup. Instructors can present iPad content while walking around the classroom, and they can remotely share images from audio-visual equipment, such as document cameras, laptops or computers that are connected to the CPN-5600. They can then annotate the shared content by drawing, writing or highlighting it, and the annotations are displayed to the class.

According to the company, the CPN-5600 has "a much smaller footprint and faster processing speed than previous models." Other new features include upgraded menus, additional HDMI ports and faster saving of images to USB.

Key features of the CPN-5600 include:

  • Support for drawing and placing pointers over high-bandwidth digital content protection (HDCP) images;
  • Video input scaling in composite, Y/C, RGB, YUV, VGA and HDMI formats and video output scaling in various high resolution formats;
  • Annotated image capture and storage on USB memory devices;
  • Image printing to network USB printers; and
  • Ability to display annotated work on select third-party touch screen devices.

The company is offering free offset rack ears for the 11.875-inch unit when requested at the time of device order. The rack ears allow for front-end USB cabling and extra space for a power supply beside the unit.
