McNeese State U Expands Online College Course Options
McNeese State University, part of the
University of Louisiana System, has added
a new online degree pathway intended to make education more affordable and
accessible to adult learners.
The university has partnered with
StraighterLine, a provider of online college courses, and now accepts
StraighterLine's courses for credit. "Adult learners can now earn their McNeese
degree online or at the Lake Charles campus and use StraighterLine's courses to
complete their required general education courses," according to the company.
According to StraighterLine, students can save money by transferring
StraighterLine course credits to their McNeese degree programs. An example on
the company's site illustrates how a student completing their Bachelor of
General Studies degree at McNeese can save $6,000 by using StraighterLine's
courses, which cost an average of $43.30 per credit hour compared to McNeese's
courses, which cost an average of $190 per credit hour, already the second most
affordable online college courses in the state, according to
AffordableCollegesOnline.com.
Students interested in completing their degree at McNeese State University
using StraighterLine's courses can contact a StraighterLine advisor who will
help the student choose the courses needed for their degree. Students can
complete their general education courses — up to 35 percent of their required
degree credits — through StraighterLine, and the company will handle the work
of transferring the credits to McNeese on behalf of the students.
McNeese State University is located in Lake Charles, LA and offers online
degree programs and certificates in criminal justice, family and child studies,
management, nursing, sociology and organizational leadership.
StraighterLine's courses are evaluated and recommended by the
American Council on Education's College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE
Credit), and more than 400 colleges have accepted credit for StraighterLine
courses.
Further information about the partnership can be found on
StraighterLine's site.
