Southern Illinois U Adopts IP Management To Support BYOD

Southern Illinois University (SIU) has adopted an Internet Protocol Address Management (IPAM) solution in an effort to improve network visibility, reduce the risk of error and to share administrative requirements between teams.

Previously, SIU was using multiple spreadsheets to manage IP addresses. But as students as professors brought more devices to campus, sometimes connecting as many as seven each, that approach became unmanageable.

"Initially, when the university started looking for a formal DDI solution, the products they tested had issues successfully managing all of their IP addresses," according to a news release. "They found that the response time from the user interfaces were too slow and there was very limited workflow functionality built-in to delegate management to their internal teams."

Eventually, the university settled on EfficientIP's Solidserver DDI solution.

"We selected EfficientIP's Solidserver solution after testing other solutions because it was the only one that delivered the expected performance, even with our large number of IP addresses," said Kade Cole, network engineer at Southern Illinois University, in a prepared statement.

"The EIP team was always present and available for us," added Cole. "They did a great demo, and the solution was price effective. We will first deploy the IPAM modules, followed by the DHCP services, and later on the DNS services, to fully benefit from the total integration of all the components."
