Canvas Strengthens Mediasite Partnership

Instructure and Sonic Foundry have strengthened an existing partnership by further integrating the latter's Mediasite video creation and management tool with Instructure's Canvas learning management system (LMS).

Built on IMS Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) standards, the integration allows users to access Mediasite from within Canvas so that "faculty can easily upload video or record flipped modules, full lectures and other supporting videos, all of which is automatically published to the Canvas course," according to a news release. "Mediasite's valuable viewership analytics show what video or video segments are watched by which students, helping instructors uncover potentially difficult course material requiring further clarification. Students have more flexible access to academic video and are ensured they are seeing the most recent, relevant content."

"This integration between two best-in-class solutions supports the strategy at the heart of today's teaching and learning approach — video. When deployed effectively, video saves time, increases engagement and reinforces the educational experience," said Jared Stein, VP of research and education at Instructure, in a prepared statement.
