Looking for a more efficient way to provision user accounts for its 3,200-plus students, faculty and staff, Marywood University in Pennsylvania has rolled out the User Management Resource Administrator (UMRA) from identity and access management provider Tools4ever.

UMRA has automated the university's account management process, so manual action is no longer required from IT staff. Once a student's information is added into Marywood's Ellucian student information system, all appropriate accounts are automatically provisioned, and a Gmail account is created along with a password for the university portal.

Previously, "It was an extremely time consuming, labor intensive challenge to provision portal accounts and corresponding Gmail addresses," said Anthony Spinillo, chief information officer at Marywood, in a press release. "Our helpdesk would field dozens of calls per day because of long turnaround time on provisioning, but with UMRA, these calls dried up. Helpdesk staff now has much more time to help students and faculty with instructional technology issues."

Going forward, the university plans to implement Tools4evers Self Service Reset Password Manager, which will allow students and staff to reset their own passwords without helpdesk involvement.
