MIT's Initiative for the Digital Economy Taps First Partner

MIT's Initiative for the Digital Economy (IDE) has added a private partner as its first member.

Created "to address the impact of digital technology on business, the economy and society, including broad sociological changes," according to a news release, IDE is teaming up with Accenture owing to the consulting, technology and outsourcing company's shared "interest in defining new business models necessary to be successful in the digital world."

IDE aims to engage MIT students and faculty in areas relevant to the "digital revolution" to make recommendations for policy makers and industry leaders regarding the digital economy.

As part of the partnership, Accenture has committed to partner with MIT by participating in joint research projects, contributing to IDE's research and technology roadmap, mentoring students and participating in a fellowship program for five years.

"We are pleased to have the support of Accenture's thought leadership as we continue build out an interdisciplinary focus and conduct research in various areas such as new digital models, big data and productivity," said Andrew McAffee, associate director for the Initiative on the Digital Economy at the MIT Sloan School of Management, in a prepared statement. "The IDE looks forward to growing the program with Accenture as we pave the way towards better understanding how digital technology is transforming the world today."
