Penn State Debuts Online Master's in Special Ed
Penn State is launching an
online
master's in education program aimed at working teachers.
Offered through the university's World Campus and taught by Penn State
College of Education instructors, the program will offer three areas of emphasis.
The first, academic and behavior support, will help educators learn how to support all students with particular emphasis on at-risk
students and those with special needs.
The applied behavior analysis emphasis includes required coursework for certification as a behavior analyst.
The third emphasis, autism, aims to "give teachers the skills to assess and instruct children with autism, and to design programs with
those children in mind," according to a news release.
"This program will provide core foundational knowledge, while allowing flexibility for students to explore emphases that meet their
professional goals," said David Sylvia, director of academic affairs for graduate programs at World Campus, in a prepared statement.
