A company that provides video recording and sharing software is updating its flagship service. Panopto has launched version 5.0 of its enterprise video platform, which enhances mobile usage in rooms, adds Mac OS support and provides new user controls for live webcast streaming.
Remote Control is a new Panopto feature that turns mobile devices into touch panels to allow users to preview and control video recording systems with little tech support. According to the company, users can walk into the classroom or conference room, launch the mobile app on their devices, see themselves on camera and click Record. An indicator light confirms that the recording is working; and Panopto automatically publishes the finished recording to video portal where it can be shared with others and watched on any kind of computing device.
Release 5.0 adds support for the Mac OS to emulate the same functionality already provided for Windows users, including live streaming of content from computer screens, webcams, cameras and other devices.
The new version also adds DVR controls, allowing a viewer to pause and rewind live webcasts.
Other enhancements have been made to the interface to "clean" it up and to playback, which now configures itself to fit the available bandwidth.
The software is used by the universities of Arizona, Washington and North Texas, among others.
