UT Austin Launches Mobile App for Sports Fans and Students

Available on iPhone and Android, the mobile app delivers both course information and sports coverage.

Students, campus visitors and sports fans can now access University of Texas course information, event schedules, live game audio and more via a new mobile app.

The University of Texas at Austin  developed the app with SportsLabs, a digital sports technology company, to enhance the student experience on campus as well as the fan experience at games, according to a press release. The app provides full coverage of every sports game at every University of Texas school, with live audio, scores and alerts, as well as live social media content from Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. Location-based tech, including geo-fencing and beacons, will enable “targeted engagement on campus, around Austin, and at both home and away Longhorn games.”

Additionally, the app offers personalized course schedules, grades and other student information on the MyUT portal, as well as other campus information, including hours of operation for bus routes and campuswide events.

“The University of Texas values the role of technology in better serving our fans and our students,” said Chris Plonsky, women’s athletics director and executive senior associate athletics director for external services, in a prepared statement. “The University wanted to vastly improve and expand our mobile offer for all constituents, and this new app allows us to accomplish that goal.”

The app will be active at UT’s first game on Sept. 4. It is available for iPhone and Android for free.
